Five Years Already?

I remember so clearly waiting outside the hospital room where Layne was born. There was at least 15 of us there waiting for the news! Justin came out of the room and said..."We have a baby! It is about this long and has 10 fingers and toes!" We didn't know if this little one was a boy or a girl and Justin stretched it out a bit and made us all say..."Is it a boy or a girl?" Layne Margaret was born! We celebrated the fact that Layne was born 5 years ago last night. What a precious little girl she is! She will start kindergarten in just a few weeks. Wow!
The whole family on both sides came up to Kristin's and Justin's house for a BBQ and some cake! Lucy was lovin' all the attention and all the fun!

After everyone arrived Justin started the burgers. Saylor, Layne's cousin, was challenged to eat this whole burger by herself. She did it and Kristin...you owe her that dollar! :-)
Some of the many kids settled down on this bench for dinner!
But after some thought they decided to take their food and move to a much better spot.
Off they went food and all to the top of the swing set! Good choice! Way more fun!
After dinner it was time to open presents. It was tough to get anyone to come inside on such a warm summer night. The kids were playing and the adults were visiting. Layne sat there by herself waiting. Eventually, the crowd started to trickle in and she started opening her treasures!

Then cake and ice cream. Kristin and Layne made the cakes and the cupcakes. They were yummy!

Grandpa Jeff and Grandpa Mike helped dish up the anxious kids! Look at them all waiting for the cake and ice cream! So cute! The simple pleasures of life. Birthday cake and ice cream!

Layne is very loved. A lot of family and friends came to celebrate her special day. Yum!

Grandpa Jeff took Layne for a special ride! Layne was grinning from ear to ear!
The kids had a great time playing. This is the life!
Even the dogs had fun!
More family!

And friends!

Happy Birthday Layne! We had fun sharing the evening celebrating with you. I think we should always go big on our birthdays. It isn't about the presents or cake or ice cream. It is a day to celebrate that God created us! One of a kind made for a special purpose. Our birthday is the day He brought us into the world. We should always celebrate that and thank God for the people He has placed in our lives!

Fun times for sure! I love that she had a before dinner dress and an after dinner dress! Too cute!
