How the Saints Saved New Orleans

This is a neat article about the Saints. Steve's mother-in-law and my friend Jill sent it to me today. It got me a little teary eyed reading it. Jill took us on a tour of the city about a year after Katrina. It was unbelievably destroyed. Jill and Paul just got back into their home a few months ago. I remember so clearly that first game back in the Superdome. Of course!!!!!! We have friends and family there now and they are near and dear to our hearts! There are a lot of great people on that Saints team! Go Saints!!!!! How The Saints Saved New Orleans

Perfection!

I got a call from Shelly yesterday asking if I wanted to take a motorcycle ride today. I checked out the weather and said, "I'm in." I wasn't sure if it was just the girls which secretly was what I was hoping for. Mike and Jim came a long too. It turned out to be a perfect ride and I was happy that the boys came along. :-)We met at the church for our starting place. Took a few pics of Jim and Shelly riding up and of course the sun shining on THE BIKE!

I actually got Mike to take a picture of me all geared up. How do you like the red leather jacket. Stylish!!! :-)We took off from First Pres. and hopped on the freeway. What a beautiful day. I think it was in the high 50's when we left. We got off the freeway at Argonne and headed to Mt. Spokane. It was fun for me to ride up there because I used to live there. So did Jim. He showed us his former home and I lead the way to my former home. I use the term home loosely. We moved up there thinking we would build someday. This place was a shack. No toilet inside when we first moved in. We had a wood stove to keep the place warm and at times I spent my evening up on the roof putting out the fire in the chimney. We also had a wood cook stove. That was fun to use for cookies, etc. I ended up living there with the three girls (post divorce). It was an adventure. I told Jim that he was looking at the reason I don't like to camp! I camped there for several years. It was fun to see the old place and it looks just as broken down as it did 20 years ago. We headed back down the mountain and ended up in the middle of all the traffic for the Harvest Festival in Greenbluff. It was fun to see all the people trying to park while we just buzzed by. We headed out of the Greenbluff area and the day just kept getting better and better. The fall colors were beautiful. As we were riding along at one point we were almost covered with a golden canopy of leaves. The trees were right next to the road and created the canopy over the road. The yellow leaves skittered across the ground as we drove through. One thing I really like about driving my motorcycle is the way you can feel and smell everything. In the shade the temperature drops a lot. I could smell the smells of fall. I never wanted the ride to end. As you have noticed I didn't stop to take pictures. It just didn't seem like the thing to do. I just wanted to go and go. Just before we got to Blanchard we made a quick stop and the camera came out! Do these people look like they are having fun???Not long after this we were on our way back to Spokane. The bonus about this trip was I discovered something that will extend my riding this fall. Last year I took the four of us took a trip to Priest Lake in the fall. I froze. I got on the Internet and investigated clothing for riding. I thought my ski stuff would work under the leathers but I was wrong. I bought what was recommended. I have used some of it but today before we headed back to Spokane I added all the layers. I was so comfortable riding it was unreal!!!! Not cold at all. As the sun starts to go down this time of year it gets cold fast. Add the wind chill and it is easy to be very, very cold! I wasn't!!!!! Yeah!!!!! The ride was just what the doctor ordered for me!!! Yippee!Livin' Life in Spokane!

Kristin's Birthday

October 21st is a day to celebrate. God blessed the world with Kristin Lynn! Keri called her baby Danny for 3 months because that was the boys name we picked out. For some reason Keri just fixated on that name! We call her Kristin now. For her birthday present I gave Kristin some shopping money and a babysitter for Layne. That was me on Saturday! It was a great day. Layne is growing fast. We always take a walk when she is over and Saturday was no different. Our neighbors dress up their front yard for Halloween. Last year Layne wanted to look at the decorations from a distance. This year was different. It was a beautiful fall day. The temperature was about 60 degrees. The colors on the trees were changing and Layne was telling me how she needed her hood up because she was so so cold. There was a bit of acting there as you will see! Oh yes and the trees! We made cupcakes for Kristin while she was away shopping. Layne ate three of them. I might have eaten one too. :-) I think there was some licking of the bowl and the beaters! Chocolate frosting. Yum!!! After that the shirt had to go in the washing machine and Layne put on a concert for me. Click below to hear the concert! Or at least part of it.

Not sure who had the most fun celebrating the birthday. Kristin or me! What a gift it is to be able to spend time with my grandkids. I miss the ones that aren't here and so look forward to seeing them. I love the webcams. Feels almost like you are right there!!! Life is good!

Los Angeles Dodgers Venting

Really, I mean really! What happened to the Dodgers! They just fell apart tonight. OK, here comes the understatement of the day or maybe week, month, or year. I am very, very, disappointed that I will not be watching them in the World Series this year. Three, 1,2,3 errors by one player in the same inning. How can that happen! Clean up hitter got zero hits!! No bats! So so close!!!!! OK, I am done now! I still love my Dodgers. Ryland keep hanging on to the Dodger blanket! One of these days they will make it. Maybe next year!

Beautiful Fall Day at GreenBluff

Cheryl, Shannon and I decided to head up to Greenbluff today for some fall fun. The weather was perfect as you can see from the pictures. It was about 50 degrees and sunny. Greenbluff is a few miles north of Spokane. There are a lot of farms and during the month of October the farms transform into marketplaces with lots of fun activities. There are pony rides and rides in horse drawn wagons.
There is even shopping for the grown ups. Shannon brought a bunch of money just in case there were things she couldn't live without. There were even some Christmas decorations! I refrained from buying any Christmas things even though it was terribly tempting. I might have to rent a storage space if I add any more Christmas decorations. Remember all the stuff I bought at your house last year DD. So much I had to have it shipped back to me. :-) Lots of booths too where you can buy crafts, food, and treats of all kinds.

Of course there was pumpkin patch after pumpkin patch. Some were real and some created for the kids!

You might notice Cheryl and Shannon holding something in the pictures above. Look closely and you will see! We all got caramel apples. These were no normal caramel apples. We each got a different kind. Cheryl got the sliced apples with caramel on them, I got the run of the mill apple on a stick, and Shannon had a lovely creation with caramel, coconut (I think) and whipped cream. Yum. Check out all the caramel in the bowl of my treat! No, I did not eat all of that caramel but what I did eat was yummy!

There was a castle there and I had a hard time understanding why. I think there was a corn maze behind it. To me it didn't fit with the theme of the outing. Harvest etc. Cheryl pointed out that it was for the kids and they really like it. OK.What is a harvest celebration without a tractor. Many tractors! Here is your standard John Deere! There was even live music!
You could even take a train around the farms!Another fun day with the Spilker family. We don't get together often enough. I can't believe Shannon is in college now. Time goes fast so live it up as much as possible!!!! Plus a little more!

Post for Keri

Keri said I hadn't posted in a while. I started thinking about what I have been doing lately. I think mostly coming home after work, grading papers, working out and practicing my piano. Sometimes I even cook. That sums it up. I was going to go to Greenbluff on Sunday and check out the activities up there but ended up totally resting at home. Sat. was clean the house day. Monday oh Monday. I of course watched the Saints game! What an exhausting game to watch. How can a team have two kicks run back for TD's by Reggie and not win the game! I am still shocked that they didn't win the game. Usually I don't think much of it if my team didn't win. Disappointed in the moment and then over it. I guess because of the the personal nature of the Gleason/Saints relationship I still get confused, frustrated and disappointed when I think about that crazy game Monday.

I missed an opportunity last night to take some pictures and post. Kristin, Justin, and Layne came over for dinner. Layne and I played with Poly Pockets on the bed for a long time. Kristin was a bit under the weather so hopefully she got a bit of a break from cooking and being mom. Justin and Mike talked hunting. Comparing notes! I really don't get the hunting thing. I totally understand the being in nature part of it. God's creation is peaceful and relaxing. I just know I couldn't shoot a deer. They are so beautiful and have these big brown eyes that look at you. I know about these eyes because I have a dead deer staring at me in my family room area! Not the whole thing, just the head etc.

Well, the plan for this weekend is to make that trip to Greenbluff. I will go with camera in hand! Until then!!! Go Dodgers! I have a Christian Motorcycle meeting tomorrow night. I will have to tape the first part of the game!
