Rocky Mountain High Day One

We arrived in Denver around 9:30 in the morning. Excitement Excitement. Keri and Easton greeted us at the airport. Ryland and Mark were at soccer. We hopped in the car and Mike mentioned the outlet malls right away. So that was the mission. We swung by and picked up Mark and Ryland then headed out to the outlet malls. Keri took me by this neat antique/vintage store called The Barn. Lots of really neat things there. Kristin you would have loved it! Here is a sampling of the items in the store. Mark and Easton were not for sale. Keri is always on the lookout for a good spot to take pictures! The hay!!!!

Boys will be boys. Papa Mike wanted to be part of the action!
The Doolittles!
After a bit of shopping we all came home and crashed for a while. 3:30 in the AM was starting to catch up with Mike and I. Then it was dinner time!!! I found some broncos, not horses! Broncos! We are in Colorado you know!
Dinner was at the Falcon Brewing Co. Very good food. I had a nice chef salad BUT...there were cucumbers in it. The menu did not list cucumbers. Normally, I would not eat anything that touched a cucumber but I was a trooper and picked the cucumbers out of the salad and still ate the salad.
Easton!
Double fisted!
Ryland decided to take a little ride on the broncos!
Tomorrow we are headed up to the Rocky Mountains!!!

Princesses

A quick visit to the granddaughters was a must today. They are just back from Hawaii and I am headed out to Colorado. Seemed like a million years since I had seen them. So we played and laughed and danced to the music. Get a bunch of girls together and there has to be some serious dress up going on! Princesses!
Somebodies crown fell!
Princesses love to dance and spin! No talking though because it was a performance! SHHH!

After the performance Lucy showed off her new skill! Walking. She just laughs and laughs and walks and walks. And then she laughs some more!
Precious girls!
Layne loves her turtles. A turtle tower!
The t-shirt! I'm cute, Mom's cute, and Dad is lucky. I would say we are all pretty lucky! More than lucky. We are blessed!

Thoughts About Grief

It has been six months since my precious Mother died. Every thing is the same but nothing is the same. I miss her everyday and still can't think about her without tearing up. Sometimes the tears just come rolling out and I can't stop them. I want to pick up the phone and tell her about how many miles I walked or that I got my motorcycle out for the first time this spring. I want to tell her the Lathrops are on their way home from Hawaii and that Easton is walking and Ryland is playing soccer. I want to talk to her about baseball season starting or the Saints winning the Super Bowl.

I normally only blog about fun stuff but this post is different. I want to do it. Perhaps for my own kids because one day they will go through all of this. Maybe just for me to get it off my mind for a while. My biggest question with this experience is, "Is this normal?" Is it normal to feel this way? Is it normal to not feel like doing anything? Is it normal to cry so much? Is it normal to feel so empty? Is it normal to want her back even though I know she is with the Lord? Is it normal to still be feeling so alone? There are lots of questions starting with...Is it normal! Logically, I know there really is no normal. Everyone is different and we experience grief differently. Sometimes I feel like I will never feel right again. Yet, I know I will because I am starting to move that direction. I am feeling joy again. I am not just going through the motions. I was walking the other day and thought... I feel good. I am having fun. Most days I am excited about life but it still feels very different.

I hang on to the fact that my Mom was a Christian and she is happier than I can even imagine and she is totally pain free. I think about the moment she saw God. What was it like? Glorious! I wish I could know just a little of what it felt like to actually see God. I feel God and see Him working in me and in my life. I wonder how people who do not believe in God get through the death of someone they love. I think about my family and don't want them to be sad when I die because I know I will be experiencing what my Mom is! I wish there was a way that my daughters would not feel this grief. I know they will but just remember girls...I lived life and loved life and I will be with Jesus. Yippee!

My mom died on a Sunday and Toby Keith had just come out with a song about a friend of his that died. I heard that song and cried. It so hit home. I bet a lot of you have heard it. It is so where I was the first few months and it reminded me so much of my mom! Especially the part that says...play it sweet in heaven 'cause that is right where you wanna be. She did! She looked forward to heaven!

Got the news on Friday mornin’
But a tear I couldn’t find
You showed me how I’m supposed to live
And now you showed me how to die
I was lost till Sunday mornin’
I woke up to face my fear
While I’m writing you this goodbye song
I found a tear

I’m gonna miss that smile
I’m gonna miss you my friend
Even though it hurts the way it ended up
I’d do it all again
So play it sweet in heaven
‘Cause that’s right where you wanna be
I’m not crying 'cause I feel so sorry for you
I’m crying for me

I got up and dialed your number
And your voice came on the line
That old familiar message
I heard a thousand times it just said
Sorry that I missed you
Leave a message and god bless
I know you think I’m crazy
But I had to hear your voice again

I’m gonna miss that smile
I’m gonna miss you my friend
Even though it hurts the way it ended up
I’d do it all again
So play it sweet in heaven
‘Cause that’s right where you wanna be
I’m not crying 'cause I feel so sorry for you
I’m crying for me

So play your upside-down, left handed
Backwards bass guitar
And I’ll see you on the other side
Superstar

I’m gonna miss that smile
I’m gonna miss you my friend
Even though it hurts the way it ended up
I’d do it all again
So play it sweet in heaven
‘Cause that’s right where you wanna be
I’m not crying 'cause I feel so sorry for you
I’m crying for me

I’m still crying
I’m crying for me
I’m still crying

I was out walking the other day with my ipod plugged in my ear. I had downloaded a bunch of Christian music and I wasn't familiar with it all. A song by Matthew West came on and it really hit a nerve. Not in a bad way more in a way that I am healing. The song wasn't so sad it was more about starting to accept being without the person! That is when I realized I am beginning to heal. Here are the words...

Don´t be mad if I cry
It just hurts so bad sometimes
´Cause everyday it´s sinking in
And I have to say goodbye all over again
You know I bet it feels good to have the weight of this world off your shoulders now
I´m dreaming of the day when I´m finally there with you

Save a place for me
Save a place for me
I´ll be there soon
I´ll be there soon
Save a place for me
Save some grace for me
I´ll be there soon
I´ll be there soon

I have asked the question why
But I guess the answer´s for another time
So instead I´ll pray with every tear
And be thankful for the time I had you here
And I wanna live my life just like you did
Make the most of my time just like you did
And I wanna make my home up in the sky
Just like you did
Oh but until I get there
Until I get there

Save a place for me
Save a place for me
I´ll be there soon
I´ll be there soon
Save a place for me
Save some grace for me
I´ll be there soon
I´ll be there soon

I think of her but now more often I can just...

And be thankful for the time I had you here
And I wanna live my life just like you did
Make the most of my time just like you did
And I wanna make my home up in the sky
Just like you did

Today these are my thoughts about grief and about my Mom. She was a wonderful lady and such a great example to all of her family and the world. She rode on the back a friend's Harley not too long ago. She went to aerobics with her friends weekly and she got so excited about seeing Kurt Warner on her new HD TV. Mostly she loved us and wanted the world to know that God loves each of us.

St Paddy's Five Miler 2010

A chilly winter (it's not spring yet) morning in Spokane, WA. Perfect day for a little exercise. The St. Paddy's Five Miler fit in perfectly to our training schedule for the CDA 1/2 marathon! It was about 28 degrees when I left my house to meet the rest of the gang. BRRRRR!
Wendy had her head decorated nicely and Cheryl brought us all necklaces to wear.
There is this bathroom thing that happens to you just before a race starts. I had an attack of "I must use the restroom" first. We were by 1st Pres. (my church) so a few of us trotted in there to use the restrooms. I discovered the attack was all in my head. But we were nicely greeted by, "Top of the morning to you ladies" by one of the church goers. I guess it was all the green that gave us away. Attack number two was Deanna. Here she is in action trying to find the restrooms at the race. Hers was in her head too. Lines were too long and she was fine without the pit stop. Probably too much info but...
It was cold! How do people do this? Really! Shorts!
I think this was Deanna and Wendy's warm-up. I am not really sure because they didn't move during their warm-up. I guess different things work for different people. Notice the cell phone in the hand! I think she was texting and warming up. She's got skills!
Race numbers blasted the size of t-shirt you wanted. We decided we would all get smalls next time so we could see an "S" on our number. :-)
This was the fashion statement of the day.
The girls walked close by so I could pretend that I was taking a picture of them. Cold...not to mention other things.
We always get creative pictures of Wendy. Her ears were cold before the race and she warmed them up with her gloves. We decided we should make of facebook page of all the pictures we have of Wendy that are a bit off center. You could call become fans! She knows how to have fun!
Dick...a friend from church who was not at church today because he was running. I missed church too. :-( He wasn't quite sure who was taking a picture of him until I poked my head out from behind the camera. Nice job smiling even when he thought a stranger was taking his picture.
The runners!
The walkers.
Part of the crowd!
We found Patty at the start line and we saw her again at the finish line. She was cheering us on!
Patriotism!
I think this little one was the youngest runner there. At one point she was ahead of us. How did that happen we thought? Dad must have helped. She is a Zags fan and a runner! Teaching her early and right!
Beautiful route along the Spokane River! No spring leaves yet but we are close!

One of the runners had a problem. She was OK. We diagnosed her as we walked by. Asthma attack. Thank you doctors Gilbert, Overman, and Gleason. Actually, I think Gilbert was the first to diagnosis and Overman and Gleason were second opinions.
More lovely scenery!
The end and the crowds were starting to gather for the prizes!
The walkers time. Not bad for walking. Nice brisk 5 mile walk!
We won! Yippee!
The prize giver! Lots of prizes for shoes, pizza, socks, sweatshirts, etc. We were hoping to win one of the big prizes. $500.00! They gave two $500.00 prizes away and none of us won. We should have though.
More people thinking they were going to be $500.00 richer today.
Now the good stuff. Our traditional coffee run. We added lunch to this run!
We ended up at the Rocket Bakery in downtown Spokane. Yummy sandwiches and lots of other stuff.
In honor of St. Patrick we all painted our nails green. Lovely don't you think!
Here comes the food. We were all ready for this! Hungry!

Cheers to another successful outing! We are missing Deanna...she had to pick up her son but she would have been cheering with us if she were there!
The bloggers who take way more pictures than people really want us to. Thanks for putting up with us!
THE END!
