Mike and I took off about 10 AM this morning for the Snake Pit in Idaho. It was a beautiful day and we rode through some beautiful country. We headed out toward Coeur d'Alene. We were familiar with the first set of roads we traveled. As we got to where we were supposed to turn to head to our destination we got a bit confused. We ended up taking the scenic route to Plummer, Idaho. We ran into a group of bikers pulled off the side of the road by a grain elevator. We stopped to ask directions. One bike was crunched. Someone hit this guy from the back. I don't get how that happened where they were stopped. The driver was OK but the bike was not. They were waiting for a tow truck. There was a local man there that gave us directions to get us back on the right track to Plummer. We went through one town and there was a huge orange sign that said ROAD CLOSED TRAFFIC EMERGENCY. My first thought was OH NO hope every thing is OK! I wondered how long we would have to wait. We were re-routed around the main drag because they were having a parade. :-) Not really a Traffic Emergency. From Plummer we went to St. Maries. Wow, the rest of the drive to Kingston was beautiful. That is an understatement! Check these pics out!
There were probably a million bikers on the roads from here to there today. OK, maybe only 1/2 a million. I have now become proficient at the biker wave. We saw a lot of interesting bikes today. Custom bikes. Choppers, gas tanks painted with skulls, fun colors and of course the always impressive custom pipes. VRRRMMMMM!
Mike stopped on a very narrow road with very little shoulder to take pictures of these gals. Of course I had to stop too because I had the camera. I thought maybe something was wrong with Mike's bike. I didn't stay there while he took the pictures. Thankfully, he got his picture and he is still intact!
Finally, the Snake Pit. We met a guy along the way that told us not to go to the Snake Pit to eat because the food was not good. He directed us to another place. I just had to at least go see the Snake Pit after traveling so far. We decided to stay there and eat and the food was good. The name of the place makes it sound like a wild place but as you can see it is peaceful and rustic.
They adorn the walls with some interesting decor!
We took a little side trip to Kellogg, Idaho. We were only about 20 miles away and Mike's cousin lives there. They hadn't seen each other in years. We met someone at the Snake Pit that knew Mike's cousin and she told us exactly where he lived. We made it there fine but he wasn't home. We will have to try again on our next trip.
We started the ride home at about 5 PM. Always cautious (maybe too cautious) I was concerned about going back roads because of deer. I expressed my concern to Mike. He said there were no deer where we were going. HMMM, in the mountains of Northern Idaho and Washington no deer? We didn't have time to get home before dark going the way we came so we took the I-90 freeway. Guess what we saw! A moose had unsuccessfully tried to cross the freeway. No deer just gigantic moose! AHHHH! We rode on the freeway until we got to Coeur d Alene, Idaho and then took the scenic route home to Spokane.
We took a photo stop along the CDA River. God's country for sure. The church and house are in Rockford, WA. The little towns along the way have so much character.
This ride was how Mike and I celebrated our anniversary. Can't think of a better thing to do! Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! But, if you wanted to see the REAL snake pit, you would have had to drive a bit further south to Phoenix, AZ.
Great way to celebrate!! What is the name of the lake near the Snake Pit? All the pictures are so beautiful. What a fun day for you.
Rose Lake is the lake by the Snake Pit I believe. We discovered several lakes that we didn't know existed on this ride. Lots of water and beautiful green with the winter and spring we have had this year.
Keri I will be in your snake pit soon. Hope I don't step on any rattlers.
