We hung around the house Monday AM and then the Doos were nice enough to let Mike and I borrow a car! We headed out to see the desert. Mike really hadn't been to a desert area. Sedona is high desert and that was our destination. We climbed to about 4700 feet. It was a beautiful day. We stopped along the way at Montezuma's Castle. Montezuma was never there but someone gave the place that name and it stuck! The Sinagua people built this castle in the cliffs! They farmed the area during the 12th to 14th centuries. It is an amazing site to see. There is a small river and many white sycamore trees at the base of the cliffs! After we left Montezuma's Castle we traveled to the Red Rock National Park. Sedona is in the Red Rock National Park. Beautiful, majestic rock formations! The camera doesn't do the beautiful red color of the rocks justice!
We got Sedona and visited the most expensive shopping area in the world. I am sure of it! Seriously! A lot of beautiful art in one form or another and the cost of the are was unreal! Talquepaque Village! It was a very quaint looking area with several unique shops complete with a metal shaman!
Just after Sedona in Oak Creek we visited a very unique church. It was built in the 1950's. It cost $300,00 dollars to build then and now it would cost...? It is a very small church but very unique. As you can see it sits high on a hill with a great view! The front of the church is all windows! I didn't take pictures inside!
The day ended in the Happy Valley near Keri and Marks! We went to The Sauce for dinner. A very nice and yummy pizza place!
